At his only US clinic in 2012, Dr Gerd Heuschmann, world-renowned expert on equine biomechanics, will be presenting lectures and instructing riders on the use of correct biomechanics in training in Southern Pines, NC, October 6-7, 2012. Dr. Heuschmann is the author of the book, Tug of War: Classical Versus Modern Dressage: Why Classical Training Works and How Incorrect Riding Negatively Affects Horses' Health, and the film, If Horses Could Speak,
This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable knowledge. Gerd will also be sharing information from his new book, Balancing Act: The Horse in Sport - An Irreconcilable Conflict?
Friday - October 5:
- "For the Good of the Horse" Roundtable Discussion and Dinner
5:30pm: Reception with dinner following, at 6:30pm, at the host hotel, Hampton Inn, Southern Pines, NC - NOTE: Spaces for this event are limited, so REGISTER EARLY!
Dr. Heuschmann and other well-respected members of the horse industry will discuss elements of stewardship to the horse - in and out of competition. Dr. Heuschmann will be available to sign his books. - Dinner buffet menu includes chicken spinach & vegetable lasagnas, sausage & peppers w/penne, salad, and rolls. Beverages include ice tea, soda, coffee, wine, and beer. Desserts are homemade cannolis and cheese cake.

Saturday - October 6 - Symposium Day 1:"Some horses are being trained with mechanical and technical devices in the shortest time possible. The goal of training should be to further the horse's capacity to perform, and optimize his physical beauty as well as his overall well-being by taking enough time."

- 9am-12noon: Lecture I (Horizontal Balance and the Fundamentals of Equine Biomechanics)
- 12noon-1pm: Lunch and "Saddle Fit for the Horse and Rider" talk given by Jochen Schleese
- 1-5pm: Painted Horse demonstration, a horse drawn with the essential bones and supportive structures, brings to life what really goes on when a horse is at work. Followed by demonstration rides with Dr. Heuschmann instructing/discussing, demonstrating correct biomechanical training principles.
Sunday - October 7 - Symposium Day 2:
- 9am-12noon: Lecture II (this lecture is not the same as on Day 1)
- Vertical Balance and Natural Crookedness
- Biomechanics of Collection, Lateral Movements, and the Neck
- Rein Lameness
- 12noon-1pm: Lunch and "Saddle Fit for the Horse and Rider" talk given by Jochen Schleese
- 1-5pm: Demonstration rides with Dr. Heuschmann instructing/discussing, demonstrating correct biomechanical training principles.
Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians: NCVMB CE Credits are available for this event: Two NCVMB CE credits for Friday evening, six NCVMB CE credits for all day Saturday and six NCVMB CE credits for all day Sunday.
